Dear Parent or Guardian,

In an effort for our school to prepare for the upcoming New York State Education Department (NYSED) mandate to administer the English Language Arts (ELA) and Math state tests on a computer, we have elected to administer the New York State Grades 6-8 ELA and Math tests by computer this year.

In the coming weeks, your child will participate in this computer-based testing. Schools have been given the option to participate in computer-based state testing for the past four years. However, this is our school’s 1st year participating in the longer-term transition to computer-based testing for New York State tests.

Please note the following:

  • Testing schedule: Students in grades 6-8 will take the ELA test April 19 and April 20 and Math test May 2nd and May 3rd. Just like the paper test, the computer-based test is untimed
  • Test Questions: The test questions students will see are the same, regardless of whether they test on paper or computer.
  • Digital Readiness: Teachers continue to use technology in their everyday instruction as one way to ensure that students are prepared for success in a digital world, including computer-based tests. Our school has been preparing for students to have a seamless transition to computer-based testing, including our participation in a simulation of testing day.
  • Accommodations: If your child is eligible to receive accommodations for the New York State tests, he or she is eligible for accommodations for the computer-based test. Our staff will consult your child’s IEP to determine how accommodations are provided for your child on the computer-based test.
  • If you would like to learn more about the transition to online testing, see this NYSED website (http://bit.ly/NYSEDCBT ). You and your child can view practice items in the Question Sampler: https://ny.nextera.questarai.com/tds/#practice . Additionally, if you have questions about the computer-based test administration or about your child’s participation in the test, please be in touch with Mr. Esposito at 718-375-7636  Ext. 3212

Regards,

Dominick D’Angelo, Principal
