Dear Families,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share important information about the upcoming Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) and a related activity that will help prepare our students for this year’s new digital format.

The SHSAT is the entrance exam used to determine admission to New York City’s eight testing Specialized High Schools. This year, the exam will be administered to our grade 8 students on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Beginning this fall, the SHSAT will transition to a digitally administered assessment. To support this transition, our school will be conducting a Digital SHSAT Readiness activity on Monday, October 6th, 2025. This 45-minute activity will allow students to:

  • Log into the digital testing platform (TestNav) to navigate the digital test and interact with sample questions, including multiple choice and other new formats.
  • Practice using testing accommodations (per Individualized Education Program [IEP] or 504 Plan).
  • Practice using testing accommodations and bilingual glossaries designed to support current and former English Language Learners (ELLs).
  • We encourage you to discuss this activity with your child in order to make an informed decision about whether to participate in the SHSAT and admissions for Specialized High Schools. In addition, we encourage you to:
  • Learn more about Specialized High Schools on the High School Enrollment webpage (nyc.gov/high)
  • Review the Student Readiness Tool, take sample practice tests, and learn how to prepare on the NYC SHSAT Portal (myassessmentsupport.com)
  • Find translated information on testing accommodations and ELL supports, as well as answers to Frequently Asked Questions about the digital test, on the SHSAT webpage (nyc.gov/SHSAT)

If you do not wish for your child to participate in the Digital SHSAT Readiness activity, you may opt out by signing and returning the attached opt-out form. Please return the form to the school by Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

Note that students interested in registering for SHSAT School Day testing on November 12 must register on My Schools between October 7–31, regardless of whether they participate in the Digital SHSAT Readiness activity.

We are committed to supporting all of our students through this process and ensuring they have the tools they need to succeed. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our main office and speak to Ms. Stephenson or reach out to me directly.

Sincerely,
Dominick D’Angelo
