6th Grade Orientation

WELCOME LETTER & ORIENTATION

Welcome to I.S. 228 David A. Boody! Welcome to the Class of 2028!

My name is Alexa Calisto, known as Ms. Alexa to most, and I am the Parent Coordinator at D.A.B. We are thrilled to welcome you and your child to the Boody Family and look forward to meeting you all!

We are committed to supporting you during this important transition from elementary to middle school.

Orientation Details:
To ensure a smooth transition, we have scheduled a 6th Grade Orientation for families to visit our school. We kindly ask that each child attending I.S. 228 comes to the orientation with one parent.

Included in the Orientation:

  • Laptop Distribution (Children will receive a laptop for 3 years) 
  • Grade Level Google Classroom: Class of 2028 (All documents will be electronic)

If you would like to get a head start, you can begin by downloading the REMIND App and join the Class of 2028. The code is @dab2028. We are asking every parent to sign up for REMIND, as we will use this app to send out information now and throughout the next three years. The Remind App is the best way to keep up to date with important information and reach the administration. My name on the app is Alexa Parent Coord, and you can also reach Ms. Liberta-Cotto on the Remind app.

Instructions to Download the Remind App:

  1. Go to the app store and download the REMIND APP.
  2. Create an account with email or phone number (everything is private).
  3. Confirm your account.
  4. Enter your first name, last name, and password.
  5. Click "I am a parent."
  6. Confirm your account.
  7. Enter class code: @dab2028.

Magnets & Dual Language

During the orientation, we will discuss our magnet programs in detail.

Magnet Program Choices:

  • Each student will have the opportunity to be part of ONE magnet program for the next 3 years.
  • Students can select up to two magnet choices (a main choice and backup choice) on our program form that will be filled out after orientation on our grade level google classroom. 

Please take some time to discuss these options with your child before the event, as this will help them make informed choices that align with their interests. We have a dedicated section on our website for more information about the magnet programs.

If your child has been accepted into one of our Dual Language programs (Russian, Chinese, or Spanish), they will also have the opportunity to choose a magnet program.

This allows for a well-rounded educational experience, integrating both language and specialized magnet interests.
