Blended/Remote Learning Information

Please read the following attachments from the DOE regarding COVID-19 Info and Testing

BLENDED LEARNING SCHEDULE FOR FALL 2020

We are starting the school year with a blended learning schedule OR 100% Remote Learning.

Blended Learning (Group A or B): means that your child will be in school some days and working from home some days.

100% Remote Learning (Group D): Your child will be working from home 5 days a week logging in and receiving instruction on google classroom.

Blended Learning Schedule:

Group A will be in school on Tuesday and Wednesdays and working from home Thursdays and Fridays.
Group B will be in school on Thursdays and Fridays and working from home Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Mondays will be a rotating day each week. One week Group A, one week Group B. (See picture below)
We will have calendar posted on our website.
If you need to switch your child's in-school learning days due to special circumstances please reach out to the grade level Assistant Principal.

All students:

The school day will run from 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Google Classroom Information:

Device

Your child needs a device that can go on zoom with a camera that turns on and a microphone. If you do not have one please go on our front page of our website and make an upcoming appointment for a laptop.

If you would like an IPAD you will need to order it from the Department of Education. That link is also posted on our front page of our website.

*If a child is using our IS228 laptops at home they will now need to sign in the device with their DOE Usernames and passwords.

*Supply Lists will be given the first day of classes.

Sibling Priority

We will make sure that siblings that are in IS228 will have the same days for parents to be able to figure out child care situations.
We did parent outreach all week, if you have not spoken to a staff member please email Ms. Alexa ([email protected]) with all the names of your children that attend IS228.
We cannot guarantee that your children in different schools will be on the same day as each school has a different reopening plan based on the number of students that attend that school.

Physical Education in the Blended Model

-We will begin on September 16 for ALL students REMOTELY for an Orientation that will take place September 16, 17, 18.

1st Day of Inperson Learning is October 1 for Group B. Group A & D are remote.

Will there be Live Instruction or otherwise known as Synchronous Instruction?

The following guidance has been developed by the Department of Education in accordance with CDC guidelines.

General Health Protocols

At all times, students and staff must wear face coverings protecting their nose and mouth while at school or on their way to school.
Students and staff must maintain six feet of physical distancing throughout the school day, anywhere on school grounds and to and from school.
Daily health screenings, including temperature checks, must be completed at home by families and by school-based staff of physical distancing throughout the school day, anywhere on school grounds and to and from school.
Every morning, prior to entering the school, specific staff will perform random samplings of temperatures for both students and school-based staff using non-touch thermometers.

School-based staff and students cannot report to school if they have:

Been knowingly in close or proximate contact in the past 14 days with anyone who has tested positive through a diagnostic test for COVID-19 or who has or had symptoms of COVID-19.
Tested positive through a diagnostic test for COVID-19 in the past 14 days.
Experienced any symptoms of COVID-19, including a temperature of greater than 100.0°F, in the past 14 days.
Traveled internationally or from a state with widespread community transmission of COVID-19 per the New York State Travel Advisory in the past 14 days.

Student’s showing symptoms of COVID:

Students showing symptoms of COVID-19 will be escorted to the Isolation Room by a designated staff member wearing appropriate PPE. Symptoms of COVID-19 are:

Fever of 100.0°F or higher or chills
Cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
Loss of taste or smell
Sore throat, congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea

The area where the student was showing symptoms must be immediately cleaned and disinfected.
The nurse or health professional, wearing appropriate PPE, will evaluate the student in the Isolation Room for symptoms of COVID-19.
A family member or guardian will be contacted by a staff member and asked to pick up the student.

Returning to School

Any individual (student or staff member) showing signs of COVID-19 can only return to school when all the following conditions are met:

Received a positive COVID-19 test AND
Isolated for 10 days AND
Presents clearance from a healthcare provider AND
The individual has been symptom free for 24 hours without the use of medication. OR
Received a negative COVID-19 test AND
Presents clearance from a healthcare provider AND
The individual has been symptom free for 24 hours without the use of medication. OR
Never got a COVID-19 test AND
At least 10 days have passed since symptoms started AND
Presents clearance from a healthcare provider AND
The individual has been symptom free for 24 hours without the use of medication.

If DOHMH or NYC Test & Trace Corps determine the individual is considered a close contact of a positive case, the individual can only return to school when all the following are met:

The individual has completed a 14-day quarantine regardless of symptoms or COVID-19 test results since their last exposure to that case AND
Presents clearance from a health care provider evaluation AND
The student has been symptom free for 24 hours without the use of medication.
Students in quarantine should participate in remote learning if feeling well enough.

Building Protocols

Entry Guidelines

All students will enter into the schoolyard entrance on West 4th street. Doors will open at 8:20 to begin ID card swiping, random temperature checks and hand washing/sanitizing. Students will be expected to maintain 6 feet of physical distancing while entering the building.
Students will report directly to their period 1 class which will start at 8:30.
Students who report to the building on days they should be remote will be held in a separate room till someone on the blue card can pick them up. Or students can be sent home on their own if we have a waiver signed by a parent.

Dismissal Guidelines

Visitor Policy

In an effort to minimize the number of visitors in a school at any given time, we will attempt to address all visitors and parent concerns by phone or computer.

Meetings will be conducted remotely where possible (e.g. Zoom, MS Teams, Google Meets).

When it is necessary to hold a meeting in person, all visitors are required to follow the visitor control protocols, including temperature checks, complying with physical distancing requirements and wearing a face covering.
If a parent is called to the school to pick up their child, the child must be brought to the main lobby to meet the parent

Choosing Remote/Blended Learning

Attendance Policy

The DOE will be tracking student attendance every school day regardless if the student is scheduled for blended or remote.
A student will be marked present if they meet one of the following requirements:

In Person: student is physically present in the classroom / school learning environment for instruction during the scheduled school day.
Remote: student is virtually present in a virtual learning environment for synchronous instruction during the scheduled school day.
