Band Magnet Program (Grades 6-8)

Overview:

The Band Magnet Program offers a comprehensive three-year sequential music education for students in grades 6-8, designed to prepare them for specialized high school auditions and foster a lifelong appreciation for music. This program is ideal for students of all levels—whether beginners or those with some experience—because no prior musical knowledge is required. Our program encourages personal growth through musical learning, and each student is provided with their own instrument to use in class and at home.

Program Highlights:

  • All Skill Levels Welcome: Whether your child is a complete beginner or has some musical experience, the Band Magnet is designed to guide each student through their musical journey, no prior experience necessary.

  • Instruments Provided: Every student receives their own instrument for class and an extra instrument to take home for practice, ensuring that students don’t have to transport large instruments back and forth.

  • Daily Classes: Magnet Band classes meet one period per day, allowing students to develop their musical skills consistently.

  • Preparing for High School Auditions: Over the course of three years, students are prepared for specialized high school music auditions, where they will showcase their growth and proficiency as musicians.

Skills Developed Through Learning an Instrument:

  • Memory: Playing an instrument strengthens memory, requiring students to remember notes, rhythms, and techniques.

  • Time Management & Organization: Students learn to juggle practicing, performing, and studying, which builds essential time management skills.

  • Teamwork: Music is often performed in ensembles, teaching students the importance of cooperation and collaboration with peers.

  • Perseverance: Learning an instrument is a challenging process, and students develop the ability to work through difficulties and persist until they succeed.

  • Coordination: Playing an instrument improves physical coordination, especially fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

  • Mathematical Ability: Music helps students understand patterns, structures, and rhythms, which enhances their mathematical thinking.

  • Reading & Comprehension: Reading music and understanding musical notation improves reading comprehension and critical thinking.
