Computer Science

Staff Member(s): Mr. Myers, Mr. LaVeglia, Ms. Joudeh

As the foundation for all computing, computer science is defined as “the  study of computers and algorithmic processes, including their principles, their hardware and software designs, their implementation, and their impact on society” (Tucker et. al, 2003, p.6)

In our Computer Science magnet, students develop habits of creative and collaborative problem-solving. They are introduced to Computer Science as a way of thinking, that is relevant and applicable to a wide range of contexts. Through a problem-based curriculum, students are provided with a multitude of opportunities and experiences that constitute Computer Science.

Students learn by doing, constructing their understanding in collaboration with their peers. Each project is designed to be accessible at many levels, to accommodate students with prior experience, and students are encouraged to seek out the level that is appropriate for them.
