Good Morning All and Happy Last Week of School!!!

I am so incredibly proud of you all for the hard work that you have done during these last few months. It is amazing to know that you will soon be High Schoolers!

In celebration of this last week, I want you to take time to reflect on the year. We will be filling in a digital reflection "book." Please fill in the slides to the best of your ability and you can be completely honest about the questions --- I am not here to judge you! I only want you to reflect on this school year.

Monday- SLIDES 1-3 should be completed and will be checked.
Tuesday- SLIDES 3-6 should be completed and will be checked.

Have fun with this!

Happy Friday!

Next week we are going to do a little self reflecting learning. We are going to do something that helps you learn more about your strengths and how to build upon your strength. It will help you increase your self-awareness, allow you to set goals and track the progress, build your skills and learn how to solve real-world problems.

What goals to you have for this year? What goals do you have for the next 10 years?

I know it may be hard to think about and it might be easy to say "I have no goals," but in order to grow, setting goals help us become stronger. Goals can be as simple as getting up everyday before 8AM so that you get your work done quicker. Another goal could be to exercise everyday for at least 30 minutes. Think about what you would want to achieve and turn that into a goal.

Have a great weekend!

The following is a title of an article that was posted on Earth Day:
"Pandemic Side-Effects Show Us a Glimpse of an Alternative Future on Earth Day 2020"

Just as in yesterday's catalyst, we realized that with people being on lockdown/quarantine, we see a lot less cars on the streets. Businesses have closed temporarily. There have been less green house gas emissions in certain areas. With this, what message do you think the author is trying to convey to its readers?

Hi All,

This is an extra credit opportunity. I thought it would be a cool idea to show how awesome we are as a class and school by creating something nice for our community. I initially posted this on the stream, but not sure how many people saw it.

Below is a picture that a group of climate change activists in Canada made to show solidarity on climate change. Each person, in their own space, created a letter to create one message. I thought it would be great for us to come up with a message. Maybe something like "Thank you healthcare workers and first responders" or something else that we can come up with!

If you are interested in participating, please respond below! Then, we can decide on a message and assign you a letter. The letter is really simple-- use a sheet of looseleaf or white computer paper and you design the letter to take up the whole page. You get to be super creative with it. You can even design the letter on a table or computer-- print it out or take a picture with the tablet on.

Just answer "Yes" if you want to participate, and "No" if you do not want to participate. If you respond with a 'yes' I will assign you a letter.

*Also, be sure to look at the class stream for an extra credit opportunity. If some of you saw your grades for the CodeHS assignments and are not happy with your grade, this is a great and easy way to boost your grades!

With remote learning and so many people working from home now, which careers in the fields of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) do you think is easiest to work from home?

My answer: I think the field of technology has a lot of people who can work from home easily because things like coding only really need a computer.

What do you think?

Good Morning All!

I want you all to have an input on how this class will progress. Here are my suggestions:
1. We can create things on Tinkercad-- one project a week, and all projects will be submitted at the end of the week.
2. TypingClub-- Work on typing club for at least 25 minutes a day, which will be tracked through my account.
3. Continue CodeHS
4. Research assignment about famous engineers, scientists, mathematicians, etc. Also another weeklong project that will be due at the end of the week.
5. OPEN TO OTHER SUGGESTIONS.

I truly do understand that some of you have a lot of other work to do. I am not here to make your lives harder. I am here to support you in any way that I can. I also want this class to be fun for you guys. If we were in class, we would be building things and engineering so many different projects. Unfortunately, we are remotely learning and we will continue when we get back. If you have any other suggestions-- let me know.

To answer this Catalyst-- tell me which of the above you prefer for our next remote project and why.
