I am very proud of how most of you worked diligently and kept up with your work and stepped out of your comfort zones!

RAGTIME is also a Tony award winning musical with music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and a book by Terrence McNally written in 1998. It is based on the 1975 novel of the same name by E.L. Doctorow.

Set in the early 20th century, RAGTIME tells the story of three groups in the United States: African Americans, represented by Coalhouse Walker Jr., a Harlem musician; upper-class suburbanites, represented by Mother, the matriarch of a white upper-class family in New Rochelle, New York; and Eastern European immigrants, represented by Tateh, a Jewish immigrant from Latvia. The show also incorporates historical figures such as Harry Houdini, Evelyn Nesbit, Booker T. Washington, J. P. Morgan, Henry Ford, Stanford White, Harry Kendall Thaw, Admiral Peary, Matthew Henson, and Emma Goldman.

The two songs I want you to listen to are from the musical RAGTIME.Even though these songs were written over 20 years ago about an era over 100 years ago, I think these songs are very relevant to the world all around us right now.

After you do that, read it outloud, several times, so that you become very familiar with it, but DO NOT MEMORIZE it yet.
Go back to last week where you told me your 5 w's and think of them while you are reading the monologue so you will make clear choices.

I was very pleased that everyone of you is on board for our little experiment. I know this is going to be waaay out of some of your comfort zones. If you would like to be on the technical side of things and can think of the best way for us to accomplish our video, let me know your thoughts. Do some 'technical' research, and let me know what you come up with.
