Description

In the STEAM Magnet, every student becomes a junior innovator as we follow the engineering design process to dive into the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Students engage in hands-on learning as they participate in projects that allow them to build and rebuild in order to learn from each trial. As innovators, we dive into the world of 3D Printing, architects, coding, and so much more. Creating possibilities that are endless leads to a whole new world of creative designs through the engineering design process, which focuses on constantly improving one’s work.

Grade 6 Topics

Students explore the world of 3D printing and understanding the technology that supports STL files. Explorers will learn Tinker ad at the basic level and build towards using Autodesk Fusion 360. Together with circuitry, engineers create models that tie together 3D designs and electrical circuits.

Grade 7 Topics

With a focus on financial literacy, our innovators become entrepreneurs. Focused on environmental issues, these young engineers explore the alternative energy sources that are better for our neighborhoods. Further, students explore business plans that consist of loan applications, seeking funding partnerships, and advertising. Throughout the process, students explore interest loans and begin to understand how interest rates can change.

Grade 8 Topics

Engineers dive into the world of architecture using mathematical precision to construct blueprints of monuments. Understanding how structures are designed allows the innovators to construct their own scaled replicas, focusing on material stability and architectural design.
